17.02.2009: Introduction to good scientific practice

Workshop "Introduction to good scientific practice" by Rainer Brömer.

Questions:

Please, read the texts carefully and clarify for yourselves the issues addressed.

Think of an argument why it is relevant for scientists to reflect ethical and theoretical aspects of science TOGETHER.

A few hints:

-- Can we say that "what is true is right" (naturalism)?

-- If we don’t have direct access to true knowledge, should moral concerns govern the way we interpret our data ( social constructionism)?

-- How do we respond to "dual use" research, which is presented as being aimed at supporting people in need, but may well lead to their discrimination (e.g., "individualised medicine")

--Additional question: Is it conceivable that truth claims established in one culture may not make sense in a different one (multiculturalism)?"
