Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Germany
Prof. Zabels field of research is very wide, with a stroghold on studying structure and dynamics using neutrons and Synchrotron radiation techniques. He is one of the few scientists who have made an important impact on both hard and soft condensed matter.
Zabel received his PhD in 1978 in Munich and went to the University of Houston for a postdoctoral position. Afterwards he joined the faculty of the University of Illinois, where he was promoted to an Associate Professor and later to a full professor in physics. Since 1989 he has been the chair of experimental phsics at Ruhr University in Bochum.
His publication record shows more than 480 research papers, 35 review articles, 5 books, 5630 citations and results in an h-index of 41. He was elected as Fellow of the American Phsical Society as well as the Japanes Society for the Promotion of Sciences.
Zabel has been working together with MAINZ PI Elmers which has resulted in joint publications in the past. Future collaborations could include MPI-P and TU Kaiserslautern as well.
